I have been thinking about religion a lot lately. Today during my spin class I had what I believe to be a moment of clarity.
I was having a discussion two weeks ago with someone that I like about religion and why I’m not into it. She said “Have you ever been crushed? Like.. really crushed?”
She said that there was this traumatic thing that happened to her and that it was bigger than her and that it was during this time that she began to get more religious in her adult life.
It stuck with me.
In order to accomplish (or endure) anything, it is necessary to believe you can. You have to know in your heart that it is possible to get through whatever it is, or surmount whatever it is, and that you can do it. If you don’t have this kernel of belief, you will fail.
So, a positive mental attitude is paramount. How you come about it, however is basically inconsequential. If you think you can do whatever it is because God will help you, it’s the same as thinking you can do it just because you’re a capable human being. You get up the same hill, or through the same hard time. Neither method is superior to the other.
Having a positive mental attitude just fits my style better.
