Occasionally my sink behaves as though I have startled it by turning it on.
Rather than just letting the water flow out as a normal, it jerks violently and goes “PLURGH!” and a big splat of water shoots out.
It’s like it was just about to sneeze and then I crept up behind it and went HYAH! and startled the hell out of it at the same time as the sneeze finally came.
Saturday I am shooting for a sub 50 minute time 10k at the Charles Harris run. It’s supposedly a pretty flat run so I should have a shot at it.
I calculated my run tonight at about a 7:20 pace, and I only need 8:00 to get my sub 50 time, but I was totally spun out after only 2 and 1/4 miles of 7:20. My breathing was way over anything I could really sustain for any length of time.
Some of my friends should be there running as well, and I know they’re also gunning for a sub 50 time, so as long as they don’t catch me I should be golden.
I know it’s time to go to bed because I’m getting pretty hungry and I don’t want to intake any more calories today. Tomorrow I can eat breakfast and drink coffee and not be hungry and it’ll be on tomorrow’s calorie total.
I’m trying to break my 10k record of 53ish minutes with a sub-50 finish time on Saturday. That will be a pace of 8:00/mile or so. I don’t know if I can do it or not.
After that I’m going back to my regular workout schedule for a while. All this tapering and recovery is really getting me down.
Also I went to look at tri bikes tonight and nearly had a heart attack. Cycling is not an inexpensive hobby, folks. Not by a long shot.
UPDATE: My plan to go to bed and sleep through the hunger backfired. I woke up at 5:30AM ravenous and annoyed at being awake.
Just finished hacking up rss2html.pl, a script I found to display RSS feeds in Perl.
It now accepts a number of items to display and doesn’t require the Magpie RSS lib that makes getting RSS feeds easier with PHP. Apparently you can’t run two copies of Magpie on one page, which I found annoying because I wanted to display my Twitter and Flickr updates at the same time.
My revised source code is here.
Hi. I'm Jim. I'm a writer. These are my opinions.
My lawyer said that a disclaimer would be good, but he didn't include any jokes to go with it. Damned if I can think of any either.
Some musicians make it big. Others never leave their bedrooms. Herein lies the story of the players in between, as well as tales about ballet dancers, ground squirrels, and a to go mug.

I traveled to Tanzania with my friend Mike and climbed Kilimanjaro. This is the story that that trip inspired. Check it out! If you like it, please share it with friends!
I wrote and watercolor-illustrated a little book about my Mom passing away. Download it for free and consider a donation to her favorite charity, the Revlon Run Walk for women.
