Lindy Fralin pickups
For a while now, ever since I heard the remastered version of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s song Life Without you from In Step, I have been lusting after a set of pickups by the Fender custom shop to go into my main guitar. This is due to the unstoppable incredible awesomeness of SRV’s tone in this song which blows me right the fuck away.
Sadly, I can’t afford any new pickups right now (at $220), but it’s kind of working out for the best because now I think I might want a set of Lindy Fralin pickups instead. I think they’ll end up being even more awesome than the Texas Specials that Fender makes and that SRV used.
I want to put them in one of my G&L’s, the one I play most, to bring its output and bottom end up a little bit since I’m the only midrange tone producer in my 3-piece band. The other one is pretty hot as it is, so it doesn’t need a boost.
I’ve been going to school over the last few days. My dad gave me a gift certificate for Valentine’s day, (Thanks Dad!) and I used it to purchase a Jimi Hendrix and a Stevie Ray DVD. I have been watching them both over and over and learning the solos, of course.
Mayer’s in a documentary in the special features DVD talking about SRV, and I’m a big fan of his too ever since I saw him play and wanted to either shove him down a hill or go home and practice. I decided to practice.
Speaking of shoving down a hill, I was on the phone with a friend the other day, telling her about going out on a date the night previous. She said “Did you light her on fire and shove her down a hill?” and that really made me laugh. Thanks for the laugh!
I found myself talking to someone recently who hates and doesn’t believe in practicing anything. My brain smoked a little bit when I heard that.
This week I ate sheep’s milk cheese and drank some whiskey. Beer and I are broken up for a while. I also set up a ridiculously huge drum kit that eventually got played by Jeff Foxworthy. I know that’s random as hell, but if you watch the country music television awards show and you see Foxworthy behind a gigantic red drum kit, it was yours truly the kid who set it up in the studio.
I got word tonight from Indie Excellence magazine that I have passed the first round of judging to perhaps maybe make it onto a compilation CD of theirs, but every time I have gotten one of those notices so far it has turned out to be nothing. I’m in wait and see mode, but optimistic as always.
Everything is great. I am well, and doing good work. I have increased my workouts and protein intake and slashed my cholesterol yet again after a lengthy conversation with my former trainer Patrick. He’s a great source of info on that sort of shit.
Thursday I rock the Ten High yet again. Big ups to my boys, Jon Morrison and Mike “Pico” Lamb for playing in my band. Those two guys are tip top and they barely get paid enough to cover parking, so buy them a drink or kiss their faces if you can. I’m continually flattered and encouraged that they devote time and effort to my project.
Take it easy, my friends! Come around and see me so I can hug your neck.
