Well, Christmas is over. I spent another year driving all over hell’s half acre, and I’m not doing it again. I’m also spending New Years away from home for the second year running. I am not doing either one next year, mark my words.
That reminds me, I need to send an email on New Years Eve to the guy who hired me to play last year and never paid me my $400 for the gig. I went all the way to Greensboro NC to play a crappy gig and never got my money. I called the guy every day for a while, until he started having his drug dealer answer the phone. Now I just send him periodic emails. I should let it go, probably, but I am still mad that I wasn’t with my friends on NYE and I got stiffed on the cash.
Christmas was great, though! I got beaten by my sister at Monopoly over a few bottles of wine and the course of an evening. I got some great gifts, including a nose hair trimmer in the shape of a finger, and some great clothes, and of course, I got to hang around my family. I watched Bugs Bunny DVDs with my brother in law, and I finished my audiobook.
The audiobook was Howard Zinn’s “People’s History of the United States”, read by Matt Damon. It’s a really interesting read. It’s a history of the United States as told from the point of view of the people who got the short end of the stick, like the Indians, pre-civil rights blacks, etc. I recommend it. I started it in paperback version, but I found it in audiobook form and was able to finish it much faster. I don’t get nearly enough time to read the old fashioned way.
I’m still listening to the Guster record “Ganging Up on the Sun”. What a great album! I have never been a fan of theirs, but this one is awesome.
I hope you’re doing well and that your Christmas was as nice as mine!
